Pop of Pink:: Overlay Skirt & Embroidered Top

File_000-5 Pop of Pink:: Overlay Skirt & Embroidered Top OUTFITS
Happy Monday, everyone!!! Today, I’m sharing an outfit that I wore to the Old Town Flea Market. In my Madewell Haul, I picked up this black overlay midi skirt. I paired it with a pink crop top with white embroidery and a scalloped hem. The scallop detailing and the embroidery adds some texture to the outfit and the lightweight skirt with the addition of wedges adds length. By pairing a high waisted skirt with a crop top, I create the illusion of having longer legs and hide my long torso. If you like the skirt, you should hurry and buy it while it’s on sale! Right now it’s $30!

Ballet Slippers:: Pastels & Tutus

Pastel26Tutus Ballet Slippers:: Pastels & Tutus OUTFITS
This outfit consists of a long sleeve top with a tulle skirt. Since it made me feel like a ballerina, I took pictures in my satin ballet slippers. Gives me an excuse to take them out outside of my barre exercises. I love how this clutch is shaped like an envelope! The zipper edging adds additional texture to the outfit. The tulle and satin balances out the edgy cutout top and zippered clutch. Feminine with a dash of spice just how I like it.

Since I moved back to Fresno, I enjoy finding cute spots for pictures. This a bike tunnel that is part of the  Old Town Clovis Trail off of Clovis and San Jose. What are some other hidden gems in the Fresno/Clovis area?

Hmong Outfit:: Batik & Silver

km-03271 Hmong Outfit:: Batik & Silver DIY OUTFITS
This outfit post showcases the first Hmong outfit that I made by myself. Growing up my mom would sew me outfits and this year she was diagnosed with carpal tunnel. This made it difficult for her to hold a needle and made me realize it was time for me to learn. For a month my cousins and sister would meet at my house and learn from my mom so that we would have matching outfits for Hmong New Year.
All of the Hmong clothes that my mom and grandma have made me will become part of my dowry when I get married. I always joke that I will have to make multiple trips because I have too much stuff. In fact the plastic container that stores all my Hmong clothes needs to replaced because it’s too full.
km-03249 Hmong Outfit:: Batik & Silver DIY OUTFITS

For the outfit I made everything except the skirt, necklace, and silver belt or siv. I was inspired by Batik for this outfit and incorporated Batik print throughout the outfit. Paired with a white skirt the focus is on the batik. Batik is a resist dye technique where wax is applied to the fabric in a design and then dyed with indigo. After the dye, the wax is removed and a white design is left behind. This is typically done on yards of fabric then pleated with hundreds of accordion pleats onto a skirt. Instead of usually actual batik, I used a fabric that had a batik print. I am still in the search for my very own batik skirt though.

Rosely took beautiful shots of the outfit! I posted a couple of my favorites. Stay tuned for tutorials on pattern drafting for a fitted Hmong shirt and for a traditional Hmong shirt. Let me now in the comments if you want additional tutorials on how to make Hmong clothes.

Black and White:: Sweater & Scalloped Hems

File_001 Black and White:: Sweater & Scalloped Hems OUTFITS
Happy Monday everyone! Recently I’ve been into styling monochromatic outfits. I feel as if black and white is a classy yet difficult to style. By mixing different textures and structural elements, the outfit has some unique elements. I love this scalloped skirt and added a leather jacket to make the look more edgy. While I was walking around New York I was stopped and questioned multiple times about whether or not I was cold.

Late Post: Hmong International New Year 2016-2017

IMG_7625 Late Post: Hmong International New Year 2016-2017 OUTFITS

This year I was only able to go to Hmong New Year for 2 days. My family always tries to go at least one day all dressed up in Hmong clothes. A majority of my outfits are made by mom and usually my sister and I go dressed up in matching outfits. I paired this with a white pleated skirt.

Took a picture with my favorite Hmong singer- Maa Vue. Her performance was by far the best at the Yellow Diamond New Years Party. There was so much detail and thought put into the performance. You can’t really tell in the photo but it was raining and super windy this day. It was the only day I had left to go so I still braved the weather and wore my Thai outfit since I wasn’t able to wear it last year.

I also spent the day in the rain looking for cute hair ornaments to match my outfit. Next year, I am going to try to go more often. I also have a DIY project in mind so stay tuned! I can’t wait to start and show you all my finished product.

I have a love and hate relationship with the color of this skirt. The print and cut is cute but the color is actually quite unappealing. Overall it’s an ugly cute. To balance out the skirt, I decided to pair it with all black.  The textured tights make the look a little more unique and help lengthen the leg when paired with almond toed heeled booties. Even though, the booties have a skinner heel, I can last a good 4 hours in these. I remember I walked around Pier 39 in these before!

Joshua Tree National Park

I like to extend the wear of my dresses into the fall by pairing them with booties. Once it gets a little chillier, I’ll add a layer of textured tights. The second day in Southern California was spent in Joshua Tree National Park. After taking some cute photos, I changed into my workout clothes and got ready to hike. This was my first desert hike and I can’t wait to go back. There are multiple rock formations to climb and some easy to moderate trails.

Trip to SoCal

For my birthday, I decided to take a trip to Southern California to do a little exploring. The Last Bookstore was a treasure trove. I could spend hours looking for books.  We stayed at cute little loft in Downtown Los Angeles. I didn’t check the weather and was stuck wearing a turtleneck in 90 degree weather…

After the Last Bookstore, we made a trip to Komodo. They are known for making the phorrito, which is basically pho wrapped in a tortilla. It was surprisingly really good, and I can’t wait to try to make it myself at home. It’s been a while since I actually experimented in the kitchen.

For a night out, I picked out this hunter green slip dress from Topshop. The lace adds a delicate touch and I wore my vegan leather jacket to make it more edgy. Leather and lace is one of my favorite combinations.

Visiting Connie

IMG_4601 Visiting Connie MAKEUP

Last weekend was a little departure from a carefully planned routine weekend. A weekend that I needed, to break the cycle of keeping myself locked up in my apartment. So I braved Bay Area traffic, and drove directly to Santa Maria after work.

A boat, a raft, and lots of laughs

Let’s just say that I am the opposite of a thrill seeker. I cling to my planner and plan my life for fun. So pushing myself to do slightly dangerous things takes a lot out of me.  I tried rafting for the first and probably the last time. I’d rather just sit on a boat and lounge around than actually go in the in the water…

After spending Saturday at Lopez Lake, we decided to have a quick stop at the beach before I make my trek back to the Bay. Montana de Oro is secluded and serene, perfect for a picnic for two. Personally, I would pick a cute spot on the bluffs and read a book alone.
